BY-LAW NO. 3194
BEING a by-law to exempt the municipal portion of taxation for any real property actually used
and occupied as a legion.
WHEREAS section 325 of the Municipal Act, 2001 authorizes municipalities to exempt from
taxation for its purposes any real property actually used and occupied as a memorial home,
clubhouse or athletic grounds by persons who served in the armed forces of His or Her Majesty
or an ally of His or Her Majesty in any war.
AND WHEREAS subsection 325(2) of the Municipal Act, 2001, provides that an exemption
under this section must not exceed 10 years but may be renewed at any time during the last
year of the previous exemption.
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Tillsonburg deems it desirous to
enact this By -Law for the purpose of exempting from taxation for its purpose any real property
actually used and occupied as a legion in the Town of Tillsonburg.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Tillsonburg enacts as follows:
1. In this By-law "legion" means a memorial home, clubhouse or athletic grounds used and
occupied by persons who served in the armed forces of His or Her Majesty or an ally of His
or Her Majesty in any war.
2. This By-law shall come into force and take effect upon third and final reading and shall
remain in effect for taxation years 2005 and 2006.
