The son of the original owners is still living and this would be an appropriate honour for the family.
R. Marsden will find out the name of the current owner and forward to T. Smith who will then write a letter to the owner.
6.2. Report from Beautification Working Group and Tillsonburg Horticultural Society – This committee
complimented on the appearance of the corner urns placed this year on the street corners by the BWG committee. C. Nagy reported that there was very little vandalism of the urns. BIA had no
budget for watering of the baskets or urns for September but there was still some funding remaining from the Knights of Columbus donation to cover this. Next year the flower colours will be all red and white in honour of Canada 150. There needs to be funding in place for maintenance of the baskets
and urns for future years. Three year plan is: Year One – to place 22 urns on the corners from Venison to London Street, changing to square planters at a cost of approximately $8,000.
Year Two – add same number of medium sized urns and Year Three – add same number of small
urns. All three would be bolted together for stability. An idea is in place to offer the stores an opportunity to purchase small portable planters for the front of their store which would match the urns and hanging baskets. This would include a planted pot, watering can, fertilizer and
instructions. They would keep the pots and could have them replanted the following years. Need to meet with the BIA to ensure cooperation between BIA and BWG for mutual planning. An open
forum meeting was held by Rick Cox to discuss an application for funding towards Canada 150
decoration. Trisha will follow up on the application for funding which was due Sept. 1. Matt Fenn of Garden Gate has contributed/donated significantly towards the beautification projects and he should
be given first consideration as a “single source supplier” for the future. 6.3 Mausoleum conditions – Tricia circulated copies of reports prepared on what it would take to repair all the crypts at the cemetery. This will be reviewed by members and discussed at next meeting.
The Historical Society should be included if any restoration is considered in the future as they may
be able to assist with fundraising. 6.4 Cemetery decoration by-law – Although this was passed by Council and the Province, it has not
been advertised to the public yet. R. Marsden will ask to have the by-law reproduced in the Wednesday edition of the paper on the Town’s Community Update page.
