Internal medicine – There were 3. Two recently resigned, leaving in August. Hospitalists – There are 4 positions. Two will be starting in July, and 1 is anticipated to start in September/October. One position still remains vacant. Emergency department coverage and other challenges were discussed. There seems to be less interest shown from the younger generation in working emerg, and there is not the uptake that had been hoped for. Contributing factors could include the community, incentives, pay for emergency doctors. Current needs and priorities for hiring were discussed – internal medicine, ED, hospitalists. The attached comparison document was further discussed. Incentives have not been discussed with the 2 hospitalists starting in July. Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee, Minutes – June 19, 2018 - 3 - Budget for the incentives was reviewed. The idea of just one package for recruitment was also discussed. The current budget allows for 3 more physicians this calendar year. If more come along, this Committee can discuss funding. Noted were the additional incentives provided by the Hospital. DIRECTION: D.Calder and S.Jansen to discuss and prepare a recommendation with respect to recruitments. The current incentive package could be used for any recruits. There was Committee support to investigate potential costs for additional space. There is very little available space left in the hospital, and new recruits are not going to be interested if there isn’t adequate space. DIRECTION: S.Jansen to proceed with getting Hospital support to investigate additional space. Discussion was held in regards to approaching other municipalities and clinics for support, as Oxford, Elgin and Norfolk all benefit.
