5. General Business and Reports
5.1. Staff update – Andrea shared that the community centre programs are running
at 50% capacity, which is not significantly impacting programs. Scanning the QR
codes at entry has been a bit of a challenge, but staff are working on
streamlining the process; users are very happy to be back to programming. At
this time there aren’t any ‘pre-scanned’ users, to make sure everyone is treated
equally and avoid anyone trying to circumvent the system.
Christian asked about the vandalism at the community centre – staff has
addressed these issues and security cameras will be installed at the outdoor rink
as well as security guards from the front door will also be checking regularly.
Since the vandalism problem was made public, things have quieted down with
no calls since. Dave Drobitch has been in touch with Jane Ann and that group is
also posting on their FB page about the remedial processes. Signage has been
ordered for the outdoor rink, will be installed when arrives. Chris will be speaking
to committee’s resolution about the parks by-law.
The budget has been passed, one of the items that will be done in Q2 will be
community use survey and the committee will be asked for input – stay tuned.
The splash pad construction is proposed for April, the indoor pool doesn’t have a
start date at this time, hopefully mid-June.
As part of general discussion, Christian asked which option for the Kinsmen
Pedestrian Bridge the council is leaning toward – Chris indicated that public
input is very important, however, the financial side is going to weigh equally in
the decision. Council recognizes the bridge as an important pedestrian link in
our community. The train bridge is inspected professionally, and by regulatory
body, therefore the report that it is near end of its lifespan is taken for what it is.
