ITEMS OF PUBLIC INTEREST/ROUND TABLE COMMENTS
County of Oxford RE: Population, Household and Employment Projections to 2031
It-
County- projections.pdf
The attached document, which appeared as an 'Information' item on the Council Agenda
dated April 24th, 2006, was discussed by Deputy Mayor Smith. The following points were
noted:
• The report is based on numbers. He pointed out a couple concerns he had relating to
the reported population and growth statistics. He noted that, with Woodstock being of
a larger population, the growth numbers are higher, but what's not brought out is that,
on a per capita basis, Tillsonburg has grown about 10% more than Woodstock.
• The report provides information with respect to the growth of Oxford County and the
Provincial average. He noted that there are only 3 municipalities within Oxford that
have had a zero growth.
• He also commented on the good news of the report ... that from 2006 to
2031 approximately 7,200 jobs will be added to Oxford, resulting from Toyota, Cami,
etc.
• Deputy Mayor Smith continued that the main reason for his discussion, is that he will
request to have this report looked at again.
• The report was adopted by County Council April 12, 2006. Deputy Mayor Smith
commented that such a report should not have been adopted, when inaccurate
information is contained within it. A developer, etc. could at some point refer to this
report for information regarding projections... and the information is not correct.
• He noted that the report contains a statement that indicates Tillsonburg will not be
directly accessible to any of the 400 series highways... which is inaccurate as well.
Deputy Mayor Smith commented that such a statement should be retracted.
