Seconded by Councillor Rosehart AND RESOLVED THAT the Federal and Provincial
Governments be requested to work together to ensure all workers experiencing job loss
are protected through the improvements of bankruptcy laws, wage protection, pension
protection and enhanced employment insurance benefits;
AND FURTHER THAT as Tillsonburg Council supports the concept that free trade is fair
trade, Council requests the federal government adopt a comprehensive and integrated set
of economic, fiscal and monetary policies along with a framework for fair trade that will
both strengthen domestic manufacturing, open new world markets to Canada and hereby
grow manufacturing jobs;
AND FURTHER THAT the Government of Canada identify the manufacturing industry as
a strategic sector in Canada's economic development and undertake a comprehensive
review of the causes and consequences of manufacturing job loss;
AND FURTHER THAT a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ernie Hardeman, MPP;
Dave Mackenzie, MP; the Prime Minister of Canada and the Premier of Ontario.
