220413 Recreation and Sports Advisory Committee MinutesPage 1 of 3 The Corporation of the Town of Tillsonburg Recreation & Sports Advisory Committee April 13, 2022 5:30 p.m. Council Chambers MINUTES Present: Christian Devlin, Taylor Campbell, Scott Gooding, Susie Wray, Absent with Regrets: Kim Sage, Carrie Lewis Also Present: Chris Parker, Andrea Greenway, Margaret Puhr 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:10p.m. 2. Adoption of Agenda Resolution #1 Moved by: Scott Gooding Seconded by: Taylor Campbell THAT the Agenda as prepared for the Recreation & Sports Advisory Committee meeting of April 13, 2022, be adopted. Carried 3. Minutes of the Previous Meeting 4. Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest and the General Nature Thereof There were no disclosures of pecuniary interest declared. Page 2 of 3 5. General Business and Reports 5.1. Recreation programs and services survey review – Andrea shared the proposed survey to be posted online for community feedback about the recreation services and programming. It will also be promoted in the newspaper. Committee members like the survey, especially coming out of Covid, to get better idea on what people are looking for at this time. Suggestion was made to include questions on trails and facilities. Scott posed questions about installing lights along the TCT between Tillson Ave and Quarterline Rd. as more people are using it since it has been paved. Chris Parker indicated that the results will be presented to council and also provided to the committee for review ahead of council presentation. 5.2. Hall of Fame update – Andrea connected with the Clerks department, and it appears that any subcommittee must to be appointed by council, have TORs and mandate. This was questioned by members as it has not been done in the past. Andrea has read the appropriate section of the policy. The committee decided to undertake the selection for this event, instead creating subcommittee. At the next agenda the committee will review the process for application, criteria and decide on proposed date for the event. Resolution #2 Moved by: Scott Gooding Seconded by: Taylor Campbell THAT the sports and recreation committee requests staff to bring the Sports Hall of Fame program criteria and application for review at the next meeting. Carried. 5.3. Disc golf – with the construction at Coronation Park the number of baskets has been reduced and some users are questioning whether it will be put back to 18 holes once construction is done. Members noted that it is an affordable recreational options for users. Chris would like to invite some of the users and groups for further discussion. 5.4. General discussion – the splash pad project is on track and ball diamonds will open on May 9; Tillsonburg Men’s Slow Pitch has 26 baseball teams registered Page 3 of 3 this year; Tillsonburg Midget hockey team earned silver medal in finals; The timeline for the pool renovations has been pushed to October due to supply and tendering delays; The community centre’s 50th anniversary is on November 1st; Annandale diamond lighting was brought up, Chris Parker expects to see it in the 2023 budget for updates and lighting. He also mentioned the possibility of building new diamonds and selling the current lands. An update to the Master Plan will address all the facilities and parks/trails and upgrades to these; Members also would like to see lights at the tennis courts to extend playing times; Susie asked about the playground replacement program and list of the queque. The committee would like the asset management program for the playgrounds. 6. Next Meeting May 11 at 5:30p.m., TBD. 7.
