With an official sod -turning
ceremony last week work began
on the construction of St. Jude's
Separate School, a three-room
open concept school to be located
in West Oxford Township, just
south-west of Ingersoll's town
boundary.
Chairman J.P. Copeland, and
representatives of the Oxford
County Separate School Board
were in attendance at the
ceremony, with Ingersoll trustee
Bert Boniface, chairman of the
building committee, turning the
sod.
Construction costs for the
school, which is expected to open
in September, are estimated at
$150,396, with the contract being
awarded to the North Grey
Construction Ltd., London.
Total cost of the project,
including furnishings, equipment',
and fees, will be $166,800, the
maximum allowable by the
ministry of education, according
to business administrator James
E. Page.
The ministry's final approval
of the project Was received by the
board on April 2, stipulating that
a maximum of three classrooms
could be included in the school
Mr. Page advised that al
portable classroom will be
attached to the school to provide
adequate facilities for the grades
one, two and three classes that
will be transferring to the new
school from Sacred Heart School.
"This is just phase one of the
project," board chairman J.P.
Copeland stated, indicating that
