OTTER VALLEY RECREATION AND UTILITY TRAIL COMMITTEE
MINUTES
MINUTES of the meeting of the Otter Valley Recreation And
Utility Trail Committee held Tuesday, September 9th, 1997
at 2:00 P.M. in the Town Centre Mall.
PRESENT: Chair G. Leachman, B. Carroll, J. Hevenor, D. Mason,
S. Lamb, T. Nesbitt, R. Bradfield

Also Present: Ken Buck, Dave Zimmer (IMC/Stanley
Consultants)
A. Adoption of Minutes
Moved by R. Bradfield, Seconded by S. Lamb:
"THAT the minutes of the meeting of July 17, 1997 be
adopted as circulated."
CARRIED.
B. Adoption of Agenda
Moved by B. Carroll, Seconded by D. Mason:
"THAT the agenda be adopted as amended by moving the
executive session between items E and F."
CARRIED.
C. Reports and Discussion
1. Presentation by IMC Consultants
The consultants presented an overview of the final
master plan which will be presented at the public
meeting on October 9th, 1997, indicating typical entrances,
phasing, design ideas for the trail. Problem areas
such as Tunnel Road were identified. The report will
identify solutions and alternatives.
The consultants indicated that the costing was not
complete yet but a detailed costing would be finalized
and presented.

Discussion took place regarding motorized uses. The
consultants were referred to the minutes of July 17th.
B. Carroll suggested that an alternate route around
Straffordville is needed for motorized uses.
The public meeting will be held on Thursday, October
9th, 1997 at 7:00 P.M. at the Trinity Parish Hall
in Pt. Burwell.
2. Ontario Hiking Day
Judy McLean invited everyone to participate in Ontario
Hiking Day on Sunday, October 5th at 10:00 A.M. beginning
in Straffordville at the Bayham Township Offices and
hiking the trail to Pt. Burwell.
A request had been made by Jeff Klyseverink to prune
the vegetation along the trail prior to October 5th.
The committee felt that this should be put on hold
until the master plan was in place.
3. Long Point Region Conservation Authority
B. Carroll questioned whether the Authority had been
involved in the process. The consultants have spoken
to them, but their lands are not affected by the trail.
It was felt that their expertise and advice might
be useful in the future.
Moved by R. Bradfield, Seconded by T. Nesbitt:
"THAT the committee move into Executive Session."
CARRIED.
