General Business & Reports -Update on 2018 Enabling Accessibility Fund project - Barrier-free Trail Connection (Rick Cox, Director of Parks & Recreation) The County of Oxford has completed a condition assessment study on the overpass bridge at fourth and north trails. The study resulted in three options that will be proposed to County Council on December 7: Option 1: Repair the bridge as is. Option 2: Repair the bridge, but make adjustments. Option 3: Remove the bridge and regrade the trail at grade level. This option is the best choice financially. If the County choose Option 3, this would achieve the goal of a barrier free connection without the Town having to do any work. The Enabling Accessibility Fund grant will consider a different project for the $50,000 to be allocated to. Below are four suggested new project proposals: Option 1: Broadway Ave Trail Crossing. This has the most similar characteristics to the original project as it is the same trail and the purpose would be a barrier free trail connection. A traffic study has been completed at this location and it was confirmed that it warrants a cross walk. This is a provincial road and would need approval from the Province. Option 2: Weston Dr. to Clearview Dr. Trail Extension. This project would create ½ kilometre of barrier free trail. Option 3: Broadway & Rideout Intersection. This project would create an additional accessible downtown intersection. Option 4: Poolpod. Poolpod is a pool hoist that appeals to swimmers with a wider range of mobility difficulties. The system can lower demands on pool staff and offers a greater level of independence to customers. Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting – Minutes - 3 - Motion: Moved by: Michael Kady Seconded by: Mike Cerna THAT the Accessibility Advisory Committee recommend the following options in the order listed below to be proposed as alternative projects for the Enabling Accessibility Fund.
