211104 Parks, Beautification and Cemeteries Advisory Committee MinutesPage 1 of 3 The Corporation of the Town of Tillsonburg Parks, Beautification and Cemeteries Advisory Committee November 4, 2021 9:00 a.m. Lions Den MINUTES Present: Paul DeCloet, Susan Saelens, Christine Nagy, Barb Wareing, Donna Scanlan, Penny Esseltine Absent with Regrets: Ken Butcher, Mike Dean, Marian Smith, Bob Marsden, Maurice Verhoeve Staff Present: Dave Drobitch, Christopher Baird, Matt Johnson, Margaret Puhr 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 9:08 a.m. 2. Adoption of Agenda Resolution #1 Moved by: Sue Saelens Seconded by: Paul DeCloet THAT the Agenda as revised for the Parks, Beautification& Cemeteries Advisory Committee meeting of November 4, 2021, be adopted. Carried 3. Minutes of the Previous Meeting 4. Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest and the General Nature Thereof There were no disclosures of pecuniary interest declared. Page 2 of 3 5. General Business and Reports 5.1. Parks Review – repairs and maintenance – the summary of all the work accomplished was discussed at the unofficial meeting last month and contained in the notes, were circulated. This is a report card of sorts for the accomplishments of the committee and the staff over the past year. Additionally, the trees grown in the Rotary Club nursery are ready for replanting. These 30 trees will be planted throughout Memorial Park and the Community Centre areas this month. The remaining Canada 150 trees will be planted in Coronation Park. Resolution #2 Moved by: Sue Saelens Seconded by: Barb Wareing THAT the list of accomplishments of the committee and staff be highlighted and included in the minutes to be recognized by Council. Carried 5.2. Beautification Needs – increased budgets, additional areas – one of challenges is the pressures to reduce the budget for the next year. Perhaps a more focused and targeted approach should be considered to convey the beautification needs to Council. The Tillsonburg Community Strategic Plan provided community feedback which includes the desire and expectation for a liveable and beautiful town. Councillor Esseltine brought up that the Oxford Parkette with regards to Christmas decorating and fountain maintenance was raised again. Perhaps for future years, the BIA representative could be invited to a committee meeting for idea exchange and planning. 5.3. Cemetery Review – repairs, maintenance and signage – the committee members commented and expressed delight that the cemetery is looking lovely with all the maintenance work and new plantings the staff have done. Page 3 of 3 5.4. Parks, Beautification & Cemeteries report card – as per Resolution #2 5.5. Future meetings during COVID – at this time the committee can continue meeting at the Lions Den for in-person meetings. However, the Den does not have the technology for hybrid model. The committee discussed the advisory committee composition for 2022 to be further review at the next meeting. 6. Next Meeting December 4th at 9:00 a.m., Lions Den 7.
